Councilwoman Bailey’s Artist in the Spotlight Looking for Local Artists to Celebrate Black History Month

 

Homestead’s Councilwoman Jenifer Bailey is looking for local artists to participate in the Artist in the Spotlight program who are interested in displaying their work that features black history in honor of Black History Month. Participating artists will be able to display their artwork in the Seminole Theatre lobby for a period of two months and host an artist reception on February 22nd at the Seminole Theatre. Additionally, the artist will be recognized and given the opportunity to promote their artwork at a Homestead City Council Meeting. The Artist in the Spotlight program is open to all types of artistic mediums and formats and to individuals, art clubs, and schools.

 

“The purpose of our Artist in the Spotlight program is to shine a light on our local artists and bring people together,” says Councilwoman Bailey, an avid lover and supporter of the arts. “We want to engage the community by providing them a space to display their art and continue to be meaningful contributors to Homestead’s culture.”

 

The deadline for submissions is Monday, February 12, 2024

Councilwoman Bailey’s Artist in the Spotlight Looking for Local Artists to Celebrate Haitian Heritage Month

 

Councilwoman Jenifer Bailey of Homestead is extending an invitation to local artists interested in participating in the Artist in the Spotlight program. This initiative aims to showcase artworks that highlight Haitian history or are created by Haitian artists, aligning with the spirit of Haitian Heritage Month.

 

Selected artists will have the unique opportunity to exhibit their creations in the prestigious Seminole Theatre lobby for a duration of two months. To celebrate their artistic endeavors, an exclusive artist reception is scheduled for March 10th at the Seminole Theatre. Furthermore, participating artists will receive special recognition and the chance to present and promote their work during a Homestead City Council Meeting. The Artist in the Spotlight program is open to all types of artistic mediums and formats and to individuals, art clubs, and schools.

 

Councilwoman Bailey, a devoted advocate of the arts, expresses the program's purpose, stating, "Our Artist in the Spotlight initiative aims to illuminate the rich tapestry of our local artists and foster community connections. By providing a platform for artists to showcase their work, we strive to contribute meaningfully to Homestead's cultural landscape."

 

The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 26, 2024.

COVID

After months of being closed we are once again opening our doors for the 2020 – 2021 season! We took our time with this decision because the safety of our artists, staff and audience is paramount. These past months we have greatly missed sharing the joy of live performance with you. We want to assure you that when we reopen, it will be in a way that maximizes the health and safety of our staff, our artists, our patrons, and our community. We eagerly look forward to welcoming back our patrons and finding creative ways to keep the arts alive in our community

Special safety measures

- Face coverings are required for all guests, staff and volunteers*. Face coverings must be worn by all guests age two (2) and over and must completely cover each    person’s nose,mouth and chin. Based on guidance from health authorities, neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas and face coverings containing valves, mesh      material or holes are not acceptable alternatives. (*Any exceptions require documentation)

- Daily health screenings and temperature checks are required for all staff, artists, crew and volunteers.

- If a guest is not feeling well, has a temperature greater than 100.4’, or is exhibiting any symptoms which may be associated with COVID-19, they are encouraged    to stay home or may be asked to leave the facility. With regard to tickets, see Our Promise.

- Protective plexiglass barriers will be installed at all points of sale and guest service locations.

- Signage and distancing markers on the floor will encourage space between guests.

- Theater capacity will be limited to allow adequate space for physically distanced seating between guests and/or parties.

- Hand sanitizing stations are conveniently located for easy and frequent access.

- As most artists have suspended in-person meet & greet opportunities in the current environment, there will be no backstage access for guests.

Touchless experiences

- Printed paper tickets will not be available at the Box Office.

- Mobile ticket delivery to your phone for advance ticket purchase and at the Box Office windows will be available.

- Contactless ticket scanning will allow for efficient and seamless entry.

- Printed programs will not be available at this time. Performance program books may be viewed digitally prior to and during some events.

- Cashless transactions ONLY, accepting major credit cards or mobile payment apps including Apple Pay and Google Pay to purchase tickets on site. Major credit cards will be accepted to purchase concessions on site. No cash accepted.

- Restrooms feature touchless amenities.

 

Enhanced cleaning and sanitizing

- All surfaces are cleaned with EPA-approved disinfectants before and after every performance.

- Special attention is paid to high touch surfaces, from door handles to handrails to armrests, in all the spaces where audiences may gather.

- Increased frequency of air filter replacement and of HVAC system cleaning and systematic fresh air exchange maximized.

- Assistive-listening devices (ALDs) sanitized with ultraviolet LEDs for disinfecting,

- Hand sanitizing stations available in all public areas

Food & Beverage 

- Our Food & Beverage team is specially trained in COVID-19 hygiene practices and will wear face coverings and gloves while preparing and serving.- rotective plexiglass barriers will be installed at all concession locations.

- Cashless transactions ONLY, accepting major credit cards to purchase concessions on site. No cash accepted.

- Individually wrapped cutlery and packaged condiments will be available on request.

- All food & beverages must be enjoyed while seated in your designated seat.

- Drinking fountains will be turned off.

Our History

The Theatre originally opened on November 26, 1921 as a cinema, primarily showing the then popular silent movies. The Seminole Theatre quickly became the place to go for entertainment and social gatherings in South Dade County and the upper Keys.
