The City of Homestead invites the community to an evening celebrating visual art and spoken word on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the historic Seminole Theatre (18 N. Krome Avenue). The evening begins with Artist in the Spotlight from 6:00–7:30 p.m., featuring visual artist Rodney Royal. Guests can explore and purchase artwork while enjoying a cash bar and food truck offerings. The featured exhibition will remain on display through May 24, 2026, during regular gallery hours, Thursday–Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

From 7:30–9:30 p.m., the Seminole Theatre will host the City’s 2nd Annual Poetry Slam, showcasing talented local poets as they share original spoken-word performances inspired by history, culture, and lived experience. The poetry slam will include live performances, music, food trucks, and up to $2,000 in cash prizes, making for a powerful and engaging night of artistic expression.

At The Theatre

Our History

The Theatre originally opened on November 26, 1921 as a cinema, primarily showing the then popular silent movies. The Seminole Theatre quickly became the place to go for entertainment and social gatherings in South Dade County and the upper Keys.
