The Seminole Theatre Players is calling auditions for roles in the production of Hairspray, the musical, and we want to see YOU in the show!  All ages, types, and experience levels are encouraged to audition.   There are two days of open calls – you only need to attend ONE day of open calls.  

• Tuesday, May 23 7:00-10:00pm at the Seminole Theatre

• Wednesday May 24 7:30-10:30pm at Lucky’s Saloon for Karaoke Open Call 

After open calls, you may be invited back to callbacks on Thursday, May 25th at the Seminole Theatre from 7:00-10:00pm.

Cast

Hairspray is a diverse show set in inner city Baltimore in the 1960s.  Actors of all ages, race and body type are encouraged to audition.  Due to the nature of the show, some roles are specific to certain ethnicities and to respect the nature of the play, we will make best attempts to cast as such.  For a full breakdown of roles click HERE.

Audition Guidelines
For Tuesday’s open call, please prepare 16 measures of an upbeat song or ballad in your key. Choose a piece that you are comfortable with and one that shows off your strength. *SHEET MUSIC IS REQUIRED* – CD’s or acapella would NOT be permitted.  First time picking an audition song?  Read this helpful article. and feel free to contact us if you need help with sheet music – we’ve got lots of it!

If you’re more comfortable singing Karaoke – come to Wednesday’s open call at Lucky’s Saloon, just down the street from the Seminole.  No sheet music is required, just bring yourself, your friends, and maybe pick up some liquid courage at the bar. 

Dancers should be prepared to learn a routine. Everyone wear comfortable clothing and dance shoes.

IMPORTANT – Please confirm at audition time that you are available for all performances, including daytime, and note any conflicts with rehearsals or tech week.  We will do our best to work around your schedule.

R+J is the result of ten high school performers working with five FIU theater graduate mentors from What if Works Inc. for nine months to develop a gun violence prevention project. This thrilling adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet” brings young people to the stage to address the issue of gun violence and provide future solutions. The production offers an interactive experience sure to touch audiences of all ages giving voice to the winds of change within our environment if we each find ways to mobilize our personal resources.

You can do all that and more at our Swing and Jive dance class at the Seminole Theatre.  This class is meant for people of all ages and for people with some prior experience. This is your chance to perfect your cool moves and impress your friends next time you hear your favorite song come on.

Classes run for 5 straight weeks Thursdays 7:00pm – 8:00pm in the Seminole Theatre studios.  Class begins May 4th and ends June 1st, and there may be a chance to show off to your friends at the end!

There’s no better time to start.  Join our beginner’s Salsa Class at the Seminole Theatre.  This class is meant for people of all ages and any experience level to teach or reinforce the basics of Salsa Dancing.  Don’t hold back any more – jump on board!

Classes run for 5 straight weeks Mondays 7:00pm – 8:00pm in the Seminole Theatre studios.  Class begins May 1st and ends May 29th, and there may be a chance to show off to your friends at the end!
