ANNIE

Book by Thomas Meehan
Music by Charles Strouse
Lyrics by Martin Charnin
Based on Little Orphan Annie by permission of The Media Tribune Services, Inc.

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations… and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Annie is the perfect family-friendly show set in 1930s New York City, and has become an international phenomenon. This show will be implementing color blind casting and all ethnicities are encouraged to audition. All roles are available.

We are looking for both singers and dancers for this production, but everyone needs to do some of each. Whether you consider yourself a dancer who can carry a tune or a singer who can move, we want to see you.

Show and Cast Information for In the Heights

IN THE HEIGHTS
Music and Lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda
Book by Quiara Alegría Hudes
Conceived By Lin-Manuel Miranda

IN THE HEIGHTS tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. IN THE HEIGHTS is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.

Directed by Charles Benitez
Choreographed by Tiffany Hosch
Music Directed by Tony Seepersadd

n the Heights is a diverse show set in Washington Heights, New York City, conceived by the creator of Hamilton. Actors of all ages, race and body type are encouraged to audition. Due to the nature of the show, some roles are specific to certain ethnicities and to respect the nature of the play, we will make best attempts to cast as such. For a full breakdown of roles, please go HERE. Performers with strengths in Hip-Hop, Latin and Break Dances as well as rap or spoken word are especially encouraged to audition.

We are looking for both singers and dancers for this production. Whether you consider yourself a dancer who can carry a tune or a singer who can move, we want to see you

USNAVI DE LA VEGA: (Baritenor, Latino, Reads 20s-30s): 24 year old owner of De La Vega’s Bodega, his parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic and have since passed away. He lives with Abuela Claudia (Grandmother Claudia), who isn’t actually his grandmother but they are as close as family. Usnavi is in love with Vanessa and remains the eyes and ears of his Washington Heights neighborhood. Strong actor, must be an excellent rapper and a good mover. Singing a plus.

NINA ROSARIO: (Mezzo-Soprano, Strong Belt/Mix, Latina, Reads as college age) 19 year old Nina has just finished her freshmen year at Stanford University. She is the daughter of Kevin and Camilia Rosario. Nina is the only member of her family and friends who made it to college. She is best friends with Vanessa and a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who know her; she represents the opportunity outside of “the heights.”. Strong belt/ mix to an E. Must be an excellent mover.

KEVIN ROSARIO: (Baritenor, Latino, Reads 40s-50s)In his forties and owner of Rosario Car and Limousine, Kevin is a husband to Camilia and father to Nina. While Kevin was born and raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, he immigrated to New York City with Camilia. Kevin immediately started working to provide a better life for his newly- arrived family. He is stubborn, hot tempered at times and can be quick to act without thoughts of repercussions. Singing actor who moves well.

CAMILIA ROSARIO: (Alto, Latina, Reads 40s-50s) Also in her forties, she is the co-owner of Rosario Car and Limousine with her husband Kevin. Also from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, she fell in love with Kevin at 19 and immigrated with him to New York City. She is cool-headed yet keeps a subtle but strong leash on Kevin. Her daughter Nina has just returned for the summer from her first year at Stanford. Singing actor who moves well.

BENNY: (Tenor, Black/ African-American, Reads 20s-30s) Now a 24 year old cab driver for Rosario Car and Limousine, he once was a street punk and hoodlum, often finding himself in trouble. Kevin saw promise in Benny and helped shape him into a responsible, hard-working young man. Benny has enormous respect for Kevin and sees him as a father figure. Eventually falling in love with Nina, Benny sees a future for them by becoming a businessman. He and Usnavi are best friends. Preferrably African American. Strong singer and excellent mover.

VANESSA (Mezzo-Soprano, Strong Belt, Latina, Reads Late Teens to 20s) A 19 year old shampoo girl and Daniela’s Salon, Vanessa is strong, intelligent and grew up with Benny and Usnavi. Though Usnavi would like to be something more than Vanessa’s “friend”, he has never made any attempt. Vanessa dreams of leaving to create her own life away from her alcoholic mother. Very sexy. Strong belt/ mix to an E. Must be strong dancer.

SONNY: (Tenor, Latino, Reads in teens) 15 years old and Usnavi’s cousin, Sonny is spending the summer working for Usnavi at the bodega. He usually hangs out on the street with his friend Graffiti Pete but avoids trouble. He is an extremely intelligent young man who strives to emulate Usnavi. Passionate to solve the social and economic problems of the city, he is someone that needs guidance or risks ending up a street punk. Comic actor, must be a good rapper and a strong mover.

ABUELA CLAUDIA: (Alto with Belt, Latina, Reads as late 60s+) In her late 60’s, she raised Usnavi after his parents passed away and continues to live with him. She emigrated from Cuba when she was very young. Of all the characters, Abuela Claudia has been in “the Heights” the longest. She struggled to learn English, struggled to find work and in turn has helped others who have followed in her path. She is clearly the matriarch of the neighborhood. Strong belt to a C.

DANIELA: (Alto, Latina, Reads 30s-40s) In her thirties or early forties, she is the owner of Daniela’s Salon. Savvy to say the least, she is quick witted, brassy and outspoken. While she retains a motherly relationship with Vanessa, she remains the gossip queen of the neighborhood. Non-nonsense, she has built a successful business but is being forced of the neighborhood because of rent hikes. Comic actress with a string belt. Should be an excellent mover.

CARLA: (Latina, Reads 20s-30s, vocal part TBD) In her mid-twenties to early thirties, she is a hairdresser at Daniela’s Salon. Born and raised in Queens, she is a pure, sweet, innocent, and loving woman who is devoted to her family and friends though she is easily taken advantage of because of her naivety. She and Daniela are best friends. Strong belt mix. Should be an excellent mover.

GRAFFITI PETE: (Reads late teens to 20s, any race, must be dancer) An 18-year old graffiti artist and the nemesis of Usnavi, he is always hanging out on the streets, dancing to his boom box music, spraying any surface he can. Usnavi is unhappy that Sonny and Graffiti Pete are friends because Graffiti Pete epitomizes everything that Usnavi hopes that Sonny will not grow up to be. Must be an extremely strong dancer. Acro a plus.

PIRAGUA GUY: (Tenor, Latino, Reads 30s-40s) In his-mid thirties, he walks the hot and humid streets of Washington Heights selling piraguas (flavored ice shavings) to earn a living. He represents a rhythm of the islands in the big city. Bright, soaring tenor.

Ensemble: Various Dancers and Singers. All ethnicities encouraged to audition.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

BELLE (Stage Age: 18-30) Belle is the original fairy tale heroine–kind, gentle, and beautiful–but with an important 21st Century twist. She is a strong, intelligent, spirited and independent young woman. Belle is the moral conscience of the story, elevated by her thoughts and deeds. The maturity and depth of her character allow her to see the true beauty and spirit within The Beast, and to love him for it. This role requires a very strong singer who portrays innocence with her singing and speaking voice. Mezzo- Soprano: Low A-High F

THE BEAST (Stage Age: 21-35) The Beast’s tortured soul is evident for all to see. He is paying the ultimate price for a moment of mean-spiritedness, and wishes beyond wishing that he could rectify his mistake. There is anger and menace in The Beast’s appearance and behavior, but increasingly we see his soft and endearing side as he interacts with Belle. It becomes clear that he is a loving, feeling, human being trapped within a hideous creature’s body. This role requires a very strong singer, and the actor must have a strong speaking voice and stage presence. Baritone: A–High F

GASTON (Stage Age: 21-35) Gaston is the absolute antithesis of The Beast. Although he is physically handsome, he is shallow, completely self-centered, not very bright, and thrives on attention. However, when his ego is bruised he becomes a very dangerous foe for The Beast, Belle and Maurice. This role requires a strong singer and character actor who moves well. Baritone: A–High F

LEFOU (Stage Age: 18+) Lefou is Gaston’s dim-witted, servile sidekick. He goes to extraordinary lengths and suffers repeated humiliation in his efforts to please his master. The actor must be comfortable with physical comedy, and the role requires strong character acting. Baritone: B–High F Sharp

MAURICE (Stage Age: 40+) Despite being a bit scatter-brained, there is no mistaking Maurice’s steadfast love for his daughter Belle. Kindly, gentle, enthusiastic and inventive, he becomes single-minded and determined when Belle faces danger. Maurice and Belle sing the lovely duet No Matter What. Baritone: B flat–High D flat

BABETTE (Stage Age: 20’s-40’s) Babette is a saucy, enchanted feather-duster, and the object of Lumiere’s affections. This role requires good character acting and she should move well, as she dances a tango with Lumiere during Be Our Guest. This character speaks with a French accent. Alto: C–C

LUMIERE (Stage Age: 30+) Lumiere is the French butler who was transformed into a Candelabrum. He is light-hearted, suave, romantic, smooth-talking, and charming. He has a romantic involvement with Babette. This character speaks with a French accent. This role requires strong character acting, and he should move well. Baritone: A–High F sharp

COGSWORTH (Stage Age: 30+) Cogsworth is a tightly-wound, enchanted mantle clock and the head of the Beast’s household. He is a stuffy English man who loves perfection. This character speaks with a British accent. This role requires strong character acting. Baritone: A–High E

MRS. POTTS (Stage Age: 30+) Mrs. Potts is a warm-hearted, maternal enchanted teapot. She sings the title song Beauty and the Beast. This character speaks with a British accent. Mezzo-Soprano: Low F sharp– High G

CHIP (Age 8-12 years old) Chip is an inquisitive little teacup who is the son of Mrs. Potts. Boy Soprano: D–High D

MADAME DE LA GRANDE BOUCHE (Stage Age: 30+) Madame is a former opera diva turned enchanted wardrobe. Soprano: C sharp–High G

MONSIEUR D’ARQUE (Stage Age: 25+) D’arque is the creepy, scheming proprietor of the local insane asylum, The Maison De Lune. He doubles as a townsperson. Tenor: D–High A

THREE SILLY GIRLS (Stage Age:16-25) The silly girls are three pretty young maids who swoon over Gaston. They are featured dancers who double as enchanted objects.

ENSEMBLE (TOWNSPEOPLE – THE ENCHANTED OBJECTS) There are ensemble roles (9 men, 10 women)

Thousands of people come to each STP production.

And we want to put your business in front of them!

Theater audiences are:
Captive – Every member of the audience sits in their seat and receives a complimentary program book with your advertisement.
Active – People who attend regular live entertainment have disposable income and are looking for services, food, entertainment, and more.
Local – Most attendees live, work and use services in the area of the Seminole Theatre.
Loyal – Patrons of the arts appreciate and recognize businesses that support the arts

We are currently looking for advertisers for The Lion King Jr.  You can either place a full program advertisement, leave your business card, or simply do a Shout Out to the cast for $25.  The advertisements help cover the cost of printing a professional program.  Click a button below for more information:
