February 1 through April 18, 2020
Seminole Theatre

Sponsored by Homestead Baptist Hospital LOGOBAPTIST

Does your child dream of taking center stage? Now is the time to make those dreams come true.

The Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre are proud to announce the formation of The Junior Players, a theater conservatory program providing training and performance opportunities for young people. Kids of ages 12-18 can now register for our production of Legally Blonde Jr.

Legally Blonde Jr follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle's boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she's not "serious" enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren't mutually exclusive. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.

Legally Blonde JR. features large, energetic dance numbers with an expandable cast of sorority sisters, law school students, hairdressers and more.

The rehearsals will be every Saturday, February 1 through April 18, 2020 from 9:00am – 3:30pm at the Seminole Theatre. We also expect the students to be available every evening for tech rehearsals 04/19/20-04/23/20, and for the three to four performances 04/24/20-04/26/20(Friday and Saturday evenings, Sunday afternoon plus a possible Saturday afternoon).

No experience required! The Jr. Players are open to all who wish to be involved. Auditions will be held on the first rehearsal day, and parts will be assigned for the production. Not every student can play a lead role, but every student will be an integral part of a fun production and have a fantastic learning experience.

The full tution cost is $750 to cover the directors and instructors, plus any costumes, props or specialty makeup needed for the show (other than shoes and basic undergarments). HOWEVER, EVERY student is eligible for a $450 scholarship thanks to the Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre, simply by filling out a statement "What Theater Means to Me".

There are additional scholarships provided by the Ocean Reef Foundation on a financial need-based basis. These scholarships will cover the full tuition, and all that is required is a $50 security deposit to ensure attendance.

Lunch is not provided, students will need to bring lunches (a refrigerator and microwave are available).

SPACE IS LIMITED TO 40 PARTICIPANTS! Make sure to reserve your spot. Deposits are non-refundable. Only accepting ages 12-18.

Our History

The Theatre originally opened on November 26, 1921 as a cinema, primarily showing the then popular silent movies. The Seminole Theatre quickly became the place to go for entertainment and social gatherings in South Dade County and the upper Keys.
