A working guide
The homepage slider — Slider Revolution.
The rotating hero at the top of seminoletheatre.org is driven by the Slider Revolution plugin (also called RevSlider). This guide covers the day-to-day maintenance: swapping images, updating the show that’s currently featured, adding a new slide when a run opens, and pulling an old slide when a run closes.
Active slider “Home” — 8 slides

What the home slider is
One slider, eight slides, on rotation. Anchored above the fold on the homepage.
The homepage’s rotating hero is a single Slider Revolution slider titled Home. It contains eight slides, each promoting one of the theatre’s current or upcoming shows. The slider auto-advances on a timer and pauses on hover.
Each slide is a large image (usually the show’s poster or an event graphic) with optional headline and button overlays. Clicking any slide’s button navigates to that show’s page — usually the Show Run landing page or the Tixr ticketing page.
There is only one slider
The plugin can hold many sliders, but this site only uses one (Home). Don’t create additional sliders unless you’re intentionally building a new page section that needs one — the theme places the Home slider automatically on the homepage and doesn’t look at any others.
Opening the editor
Slider Revolution has its own admin section, separate from Posts and Pages.
- In the left admin sidebar, click Slider Revolution (near the bottom, marked with the plugin’s icon).
- The main screen shows a grid of all sliders on the site. There’s currently one card — Home. Hover it and click Edit Slider (or click the slider title).
- The slide-list screen opens. Each row is one slide with a thumbnail, title, and buttons for Edit / Duplicate / Delete.
Don’t touch other sliders
If additional sliders appear in the list, they’re either sample templates that came with the plugin or leftovers from testing. Don’t edit them, don’t delete them (in case they’re referenced somewhere), and definitely don’t create new ones without a specific reason.
Editing a slide
Ninety percent of slider work is swapping an image, changing the button link, or updating the headline.
From the slide-list screen, hover the slide you want to edit and click Edit Slide. The slide editor opens — a live canvas on the right showing the slide as visitors see it, plus a properties panel on the left.
Swapping the slide’s background image
- In the left panel, look for the Slide Options tab (top of the panel).
- Click Background.
- Click the current image thumbnail to open the Media Library.
- Upload the new image (or pick one already uploaded).
- Click Insert.
The canvas updates immediately. Save with the green button in the top-right when you’re happy.
Editing overlay text (headline, button)
- On the canvas, click any text or button element. The left panel switches to that layer’s properties.
- For a headline: edit the text directly in the panel’s Content field. Font, size, and color already match the theme — leave them alone unless intentionally restyling.
- For a button: edit the text as above. Then find the Actions tab in the left panel and update the URL under Open URL. Set target to New Window if the URL goes to Tixr, otherwise Same Window.
Saving
Click the green Save button (top-right of the editor). Changes go live within seconds — after you purge the cache (see Section 8).
Image specs
Wrong dimensions cause cropping, letterboxing, or blur. These specs are dialed in to the site’s current slider.
Do not upload raw photos or PDFs
An untouched iPhone photo (4032 × 3024, 4 MB) will scale correctly but drag load time by 3–5 seconds. Export from Preview, Photoshop, or Canva at exactly the specs above before uploading.
Adding a new slide
When a new show goes on sale, add a slide for it. Duplicate an existing slide instead of building from scratch — you inherit all the layout and styling.
- On the slide-list screen, hover an existing slide that has the layout you want (usually the most recent show).
- Click Duplicate. A copy appears at the end of the list.
- Click Edit Slide on the copy.
- Swap the background image (see Section 3).
- Update the headline text (usually the show’s name).
- Update the button URL to point at the show’s landing page.
- Save.
- Go back to the slide-list and drag the new slide into its correct order (see Section 7).
What to link the button to
- Multi-date shows → link to the show’s landing page (e.g.
/in-the-heights-show-dates/). Not a single Tixr URL — the landing page has all four Buy Tickets buttons. - One-off shows / events → link to the event’s individual page (e.g.
/event/almighty-queen/). Visitors see the description and then click Buy Tickets from there. - Season announcements or news → link to the announcement post or a category archive.
Removing an old slide
When a run ends, take its slide down. Otherwise the homepage keeps promoting a show that has no more tickets.
Delete permanently
From the slide-list screen, hover the slide and click Delete. Confirm. The slide is gone — no undo, so make sure it’s the right one.
Hide temporarily (safer)
If you might reactivate the slide later — for example a show that ran once and is returning next season — disable the slide instead of deleting:
- Open the slide in the editor.
- In the left panel, find the Slide Options → General tab.
- Toggle Publish off (or set state to Draft, depending on the plugin version).
- Save.
The slide stays in the list but doesn’t display on the site. Re-enable when needed.
Reordering & publishing
The slide order controls what visitors see first.
Reordering
On the slide-list screen, click and drag any slide’s thumbnail to a new position. The order updates in real time. No save button — the change is stored immediately.
Recommended order
- Slide 1 — the show currently on sale with the most urgency (opening this weekend, closing soon)
- Slide 2 — the next upcoming show
- Slide 3+ — other active shows in date order
- Slide 8 — a general venue-brand slide, evergreen (e.g. “Welcome to Seminole Theatre”)
Publishing changes
Changes are saved when you click the green Save button in the slide editor, or immediately when reordering the list. There’s no “Publish Slider” button — the site pulls the latest state on every page load.
After changes: cache purge
Slider updates don’t appear on the live site until Cloudflare’s cache is purged. Skip this step and visitors see the old slider for hours.
The site is behind Cloudflare, which caches the homepage HTML. After making any slider change:
- Tell your site administrator (Released Solutions) that you updated the slider and need a homepage cache purge. This is a one-click operation for us.
- Alternatively, if you have Cloudflare dashboard access: log in → seminoletheatre.org → Caching → Configuration → Purge Everything or Purge by URL for
https://seminoletheatre.org/.
After purging, refresh the homepage in a new incognito window (regular browsers cache too) to verify the change.
Verification tip
The slider itself always renders the latest state — but the SURROUNDING page HTML is Cloudflare-cached. If the slider looks right but the page around it is stale, that’s why. Cache purge fixes it all at once.
Pre-publish checklist
Tick these before you consider a slider change done.
- New image is 1920 × 1080 px, under 500 KB, 16:9 landscape.
- Show title and any critical text are readable when the slide is small (mobile scaling).
- Right third of the image doesn’t clash with white overlay text.
- Headline text updated to match the new show.
- Button URL points to the correct destination (show landing page or Tixr).
- Button opens in a new tab for Tixr, same tab for internal pages.
- Slide order reflects urgency (next-opening first).
- Old slide from an ended show is disabled or deleted.
- Cloudflare cache purged after saving.
- Verified the change on the live homepage in a fresh incognito tab.
