The Seminole Theatre Players are looking to fill a 4-person Executive Panel that will plan, build, and manage the budding theater company under the management and direction of the board of directors of the Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre.  Each of these four positions will look to bring on additional volunteers to build out the company and create great art.

Note, all positions are VOLUNTEER only and appointments shall be for a one year period.  Applications will be reviewed by the Friends' search committee, and final recomendations will be made to the Executive board for appointment at the January 2018 board meeting.

Remember, the goal of this is to be FUN!  We had over 100 people come to the interest meeting and many more who expressed interest in helping. so there are many resources in the community as well as staff at the Seminole Theatre.  We need your help to get this company off the ground and create something great in our community.

Executive Panel Positions Available:

Managing Director

The Managing Director reports to the Friends' Board of Directors and works in partnership with the rest of the STP Executive Panel to represent the theater company. The Managing Director plays an integral role in the development and execution of the organization’s strategic plan in addition to day-to-day administrative activities, including:

  • Administration: The Managing Director schedules meetings with Executive Panel, handles communication with Board of Directors, oversees all contracts, and exercises responsible stewardship of all resources within the organization and collaborates with the Executive Panel to ensure the optimum balance of artistic quality, financial strength, and institutional integrity.
  • Financial Management: The Managing Director works with the Artistic Director to develop an annual budget to support the organization’s programmatic and institutional priorities. The Managing Director is responsible for financial reporting, budget performance, forecasting, cash flow projections and maintenance of the accounting systems.
  • Fundraising: The Managing Director works with the Executive Panel, Board of Directors, staff and volunteers to strategize fundraising activities of the theater, including individual gifts, special events, corporate giving, government support and foundation grants.
  • Advocate: The Managing Director helps to advance the relationship between STP and various local and regional organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, community and local business groups and arts organizations. The Managing Director/Executive Panel team presents the public face of the Seminole Theatre Players and the Managing Director may be called upon to speak to private and public organizations and to the press.

Artistic Director

The Artistic Director is responsible for conceiving, developing, and implementing the artistic vision and focus of the organization, and for major decisions about the ongoing development of the aesthetic values and activities, after extensive consultation with the Executive Panel and Board of Directors.  These duties typically include:

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates mainstage season, performance schedule, and programs for the year
  • Hires, supervises and evaluates artistic personnel including directors, performers, designers, and stage managers
  • With Managing Director, develops annual program budget
  • Acts as a spokesperson for the organization's artistic purpose via speaking engagements, public and social appearances, and, as requested, at fundraising events and solicitations
  • Fosters the development of good relations with other cultural organizations by participating in meetings and joint activities where appropriate
  • May direct at one or more production per season

Production Manager

The production manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the production are completed within budget, according to the Artistic Director's, director's and designer's wishes, and in time for the first public performance. He or she oversees the cost effectiveness and planning of the entire production process.

Responsibilities may include any or all of the following:

  • Production Budgeting:Advises production managers, lighting and sound designers, on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs.
  • Forms production team and assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows including Stage Managers, Designers, Carpenters, Painters, Properties Masters, Costumes, Wardrobe & Makeup staff, and technical and backstage crew.
  • Schedule and manage Production meetings, rehearsals and performances with production team and overseeing rehearsal process and preparation with Stage Managers
  • Determines the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented by Seminole Theatre Players in advance of production dates
  • Works with theater Technical Director and staff to design, sets up, maintain, and operates lighting and sound systems for productions
  • Supervises and assists with set and stage construction and management.
  • Attends technical Week rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting the show.
  • Makes recommendations to the Board of Directors or theatre leadership regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.

Director of Marketing

Planning, initiating, and implementing marketing strategies and tactics to establish Seminole Theatre Players as the primary community theater  production company in South Miami-Dade County. Liaising with the Executive Panel on the future programming, pricing and marketing strategy in order to support the Vision and Mission.  Responsibilities may include:

  • To create and deliver the marketing plan for all Seminole Theatre Players productions
  • To work with the Managing Director to oversee and manage the Marketing Budget for STP and each production
  • To design and produce or supervise (where appropriate) the production and distribution of all printed materials for STP to include the season brochures, posters, postcards, and other associated materials in order to maximise sales and to subsequently anaylze their impact
  • To design and produce or supervise (where appropriate) all advertisements, invitations, newsletters, or direct mail letters for STP to place and monitor all media advertising
  • To write and distribute, or oversee the writing and distribution, of all press releases and publicity notices, and maintain contact with news sources to help promote STP and production
  • To oversee, with the help of other volunteers, the maintenance of STP web and social media presence and advertising
  • Plan and executive special events, activities, and promotions

At The Theatre

Our History

The Theatre originally opened on November 26, 1921 as a cinema, primarily showing the then popular silent movies. The Seminole Theatre quickly became the place to go for entertainment and social gatherings in South Dade County and the upper Keys.
