DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 13th May 2023 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM\nSeminole Theatre 18 N. Krome Avenue\, Homestead\, FL\, US\n\n \nThe idea of Common Ground stems from a place within our past. We are often defined by our stereotypes and can feel out of place in different settings. Despite originating from different backgrounds\, mantras\, and/or goals- we share a common purpose.  \nCommon Ground is defined by opinions or interests shared by two or more parties. It is a result of risk and reward. Today’s society craves familiarity and like-mindedness in our personal relationships and friendships. We typically gravitate towards people with whom we share similar interests.  \nOur dancers believe our differences as artists should be unified by the love for the art form. Through our show\, we will be exuding versatility and range\, while staying authentic and true to our form. As we have an eclectic cast of many backgrounds\, we will be exhibiting different forms of dance. \nThe directors of STYX The Company will assemble their strengths to create a full length show of striking visually appealing choreography and athletic floor/phrase work. Under the theme of Common Ground\, we aim to create a space where artists of opposing worlds coexist. We are creating a ‘common ground’ from a neutral place\, where our cast pours their individuality to create one beautiful canvas\, breeding between familiarity and discomfort. Onstage you will see a wide variety of vocabulary of movement and ideas. Diving into different styles will allow us to relate to a bigger audience. Through this immersive process\, we will further understand the community in which we live\, causing us to be more connected and unified.  \nThrough Common Ground we aim to provoke emotion by telling stories through movement and celebrating diversity amongst all artists. By diving into concepts such as identity\, self-reflection\, and unity we hope to send a message of respect for one another and love for the community.  \n\nTickets are also available at the Box Office Thurs-Sat 12pm-5pm  \nAll sales are final. Krome Avenue\, Homestead\, FL\, US\n\n \nThe great classic of the Coppelia Ballet with a story of love\, jealousy\, magic and automaton dolls with a happy and festive ending.\n \nPremiered in Paris in 1870 with music by Léo Delibes and choreography by Arthur Saint-Léon\, it was later recovered and re-choreographed by the genius of Marius Petipa.\nYou will see this work mounted and structured by Alihaydée Carreño Ballet School.\nA comic ballet based on three acts. Full of theatrics and great displays of technique\, the story of Swanilda\, Franz and the mysterious Doctor Coppelius\, who is also the\ninventor and secretly creates life-size dolls that dance. Dr. Coppélius is one of those that amuses and excites the public. Swanilda is curious and together with her friends she checks out Dr. Coppelius’s house\, discovering the dancing dolls and decides to take his place. For doctor Coppelius it is magic\, a miracle to be able to see her dolls come to life and is very disappointed when Swanilda decides to confess the truth. Franz rescues her and they end up getting married and very happy.\n \nCoppélia\, one of the most loved and performed classical ballet works in the world.\n \n\nOur School:\n \nWe are a Ballet school where we train dancers\, as an essential complement to formal education for girls\, boys and young people who love the art of dance.\n \nOur methodology is based on the teaching system of the Cuban School of Ballet created by the great teacher Fernando Alonso and the prima ballerina Alicia Alonso. We train our students in a strict and proven technique (according to the age and ability of each one) to develop their artistic talent to an advanced and professional level\, so that they can become familiar with the various styles\, both neoclassical and as contemporary\, Ballroom\, Hip Hop\, Jazz\, Tap\, etc.\n \nOur program groups classes based on each student’s individual age\, aptitude\, and experience. They’ve all been accused of a crime!! When the museum’s most precious artifact goes missing\, the museum curator and the agent assigned to protect the art work put the museum on lock down. As they work through the mystery themselves\, they task the audience with solving puzzles\, keeping tabs on suspects\, and even voting on the solution to the mystery. But\, with help from Momma All\, she finds the voice Paperhaven needed her to have. As Newsies peddle their papers\, the residents of Paperhaven are in awe of The Daily Telegraph’s work\, and they’re not the only ones. Mr. Cheathem\, Mr. Humphries\, Ms. Allworth  and The Daily Telegraph win the contest! They are officially New England’s Best Local Paper. Merrick: Son of the Southwind” by Arva Moore Parks What if Works\, in association with Homestead Center for the Arts\, Coral Gables Department of Historical Resources and Cultural Arts\, the Coral Gables Museum\, the Merrick House Museum FIU Theatre and Roxy Theatre Group presents “The Placemaker Poet”\, a “dramatic curation” written and directed by Phillip M. Church exploring the life and legacy of Coral Gables’ visionary developer\, George E. Merrick.Before its incorporation in 1896 much of the surrounding land around Miami offered intrepid pioneers little else but mosquito-ridden\, rocky backwoods of palmetto\, pine trees and mangrove-shrouded bays. Into these inhospitable conditions stepped the Merrick family with a singular goal in mind; to escape the cold\, unforgiving north in search of the healing powers of the sun and the south wind. What if Works sets out to explore the remarkable story of George E. Merrick\, a man who traded his personal dream to build the dreams of others. \nOffering an immersive\, 90-minute theatre experience in three episodes\, “The Pacemaker-Poet” blends Florida history\, drama\, poetry\, choreography\, large-scale puppetry\, music and digital projections. Episode I: Migration “Departure & Arrival” – “Quarantine” – “Encountering the Doe” – “Grubbing & Planting”. Episode II: Boom Years “Ruskin & Morris” — “Merrick’s Dream Team” – “Housing the Bahamians” – “Trip to Cuba”. Episode III: Reversal of Fortunes: “1935 Hurricane” – “Bankruptcy – “Return of the Doe” – “Miami Postmaster”.
