Direct from China\, this troupe has been wowing audiences for 16 years. \nThe Chinese acrobatic tradition dates back to 700 B.C.; that’s over 2\,000 years of tumbling\, balancing and juggling. Ancient stone carvings\, earthen pottery and early written work trace the ancestry of today’s spectacular acts. Relics tell the tales of famous acrobats like Confucius’ father\, who is believed to have lifted a pair of 1\,000-pound city gates to let an army storm through. \nThe art of Chinese acrobatics developed out of the Lunar New Year harvest celebrations\, where the village’s peasants and craftsmen would hold a kind of Chinese Thanksgiving. By combining a brass quintet\, piano and percussion instruments with fresh\, original arrangements\, their unique sound has become a trademark for the ensemble from San Diego\, CA\, captivating audiences the world over. \nThrough their hit touring show Presidio!… And All That Brass!\, these five young men present Broadway music and film music with a good dose of wit and humor that together have become hallmarks of each performance. Presidio Brass has performed and provided educational outreach in more than 40 states\, conducted master classes at many of America’s finest colleges and universities and has been featured on National Public Radio. \nIn honor of being in South Miami Dade\, Presidio Brass will perform with tyhe South Dade High School jazz band and provide master classes to students in the area. \nMembers of the Presidio Brass have performed with major symphony orchestras\, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Las Vegas Philharmonic\, Pacific Symphony and San Diego Symphony\, and have shared the stage with commercial and pop artists that include Stevie Wonder\, Natalie Cole\, Quincy Jones and more. When not on tour\, they continue to perform throughout the country as freelance artists\, maintain private teaching studios at local universities\, arrange and compose new music\, assist with public school music programs\, and operate an annual summer music camp in San Diego for brass students of all ages. \nIn addition to performing as a brass quintet\, Presidio Brass performs regularly as a part of Millennia Consort\, one of the nation’s premiere brass\, organ and percussion ensembles. Now is the time to make those dreams come true. \nThe Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre are proud to announce the formation of The Junior Players\, a theater conservatory program providing training and performance opportunities for young people. Kids of ages 9-15 can now register for our spring production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr. \nDisney’s The Lion King has captivated the imagination of audiences around the world for 24 years. The African savannah comes to life on stage with Simba\, Rafiki\, and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle… and back again\, in this inspiring\, coming-of-age tale based on the classic Disney film! \nIn the Junior Players production\, students will have the opportunity to take on one of the famous roles in the Lion King Jr. The students will rehearse every Saturday with our theatre professionals\, learning acting\, singing\, choreography and stagecraft\, and then perform the full show to the public on the Seminole Theatre mainstage. \nThe rehearsals will be every Saturday\, January 5 – March 30\, 2019 froim 9:00am – 3:30pm at the Seminole Theatre. We also expect the students to be available every evening for tech rehearsals March 31-April 4th\, and for the three performances April 5-7 (Friday and Saturday evenings\, Sunday afternoon). \nNo experience required! The Jr. Players are open to all who wish to be involved. Auditions will be held on the first rehearsal day\, and parts will be assigned for the production. Not every student can play a lead role\, but every student will be an integral part of a fun production and have a fantastic learning experience. \nThe cost to participate is $250 per student. This covers the directors and instructors\, plus any costumes\, props or specialty makeup needed for the show (other than shoes and basic undergarments). This has fee has been greatly underwritten thanks to the Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre. We need your help to make this a reality! \nHave you wanted to get more involved but not sure how? This is your opportunity to learn more. STP is calling auditions for roles in the production of A Christmas Carol\, and we want to see YOU in the show! All experience levels are encouraged to audition. There are two days of open calls – you only need to attend ONE day of open calls. While there are some roles that will be stand-alone due to the complexity of the part\, a majority of the roles will be double cast \n Tuesday\, October 9 from 7:00-10:00 in the evening at the Seminole Theatre. \nWednesday\, October 10 from 7:00-10:00 in the evening at the Seminole Theatre. \n\n(Children under 16 will be given priority for earlier audition slots)\n\nPlease RSVP for your audition slot. \nThe system defaults to Tuesday\, but you can hit “SELECT A DIFFERENT DATE” to choose a Wednesday Option \n \n After open calls\, you may be invited back to callbacks on Friday\, October 12 from 7:00-10:00 in the evening at the Seminole Theatre. \nCast: \nBased on the Charles Dickens novel of the same name\, A Christmas Carol is a classic\, heart-warming\, holiday tale of redemption that serves to remind us all of the spirit of the season! The storyline is set in London\, England\, in the mid 1800s\, and follows the story of Ebenezer Scrooge as he is visited by a series of spirits and set on a course to evaluate his life\, his morals\, and the meaning of Christmas. \nAll roles are available. This production will be implementing color blind casting and all ethnicities are encouraged to audition for all roles. The Seminole Theatre Players are committed to diversity and accessibility in casting and all volunteer roles. Qualified performers are encouraged to submit without regard to age\, disability\, ethno-cultural identity or gender. \nThere is a breakdown of roles\, which you can see at the botton of this description. Some roles will be tailored based on the best actors who come to audition. \nYoung Adults / Adults: The majority of the story and the characters are for older actors.
