Her latest offering Palabras Manuales features contributions from Stephen Marley\, Idan Raichel\, Roberto Fonseca and Jason Matthews. A veteran of many major national and international music festivals\, Danay won the prestigious La Gaviota de Inspiración award during the 2017 Festival Viňa in Chile. \nFeder fuses his background of jazz and classical music with Flamenco folk stylings and a multi-cultural island vibe. His music has been featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered\, World Café Live\, PBS Art Loft\, NPR’s Folk & Acoustic Music\, among other outlets. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 28 February 2019 6:00PM \nSeminole Theatre\n18 North Krome Avenue\, Homestead\, FL\, US\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn Thursday\, January 24th\, the Seminole Theatre will open its doors to the public for a Gallery Night at the Seminole. Starting at 6:00 pm\, guests are welcome to browse the artwork on display\, meet the featured artist\, and enjoy light Hors d’œuvres.\n\nThree of Homesteads finest artists have come together to exhibit their artwork at the Seminole theater during the months of February and March. This exhibit is part of the Mayor Stephen Shelley’s Spotlight program that features local artists and their work. \nThey call this exhibit “The People of Homestead”. All 3 artists live in Homestead. They are members of Homestead Center of the Arts. They were inspired by the Diversity of who the people of Homestead are. They have pulled together a show in a variety of mediums including\, Oils\, Acrylics\, watercolor\, ceramics\, and photography. It is a powerful show not only as portraiture\, but also in showing the diversity of the lives of the people who live here. \n\nThe oversized portrait oil paintings by Carlos Franco are dynamic and serve as a biography of the sitters life. The faces are road maps of all the experiences these people have lived. Carlos Franco is the Director of art at the not for profit Children’s Gallery here at Cauley square. He has an open studio there where he paints daily and conducts classes for everyone who wants to learn how to paint and sculpt. He studied art at the Academy of fine arts in Guayaquil\, Equador. Mercy college in NYC and Miami-Dade Community College. He is an award winning artist who has exhibited widely. He is an amazing asset to our art community.\n\nWilliam C. Bunce is a photographic artist. His Veteran portraits are true works of art. He is an award winning photographer . He is currently the photographer at the dept. of Veteran affairs in Miami. In the past he has worked as a photographer/visual information specialist for our government. This year his Vietnam Veteran portraits are wonderful. Their faces and their eyes tell a story of this war. William received his BFA in Photography from University of South Alabama. We have many Veterans in our community. William’s art work honors them all. \n\nSusan Sorrentino retired here in the Homestead community 2 years ago from Miami Beach. She instantly fell in love with the agricultural community and created and exhibited her “Homestead Harvest” oil Paintings here last year. She says “it seemed logical to pull together this small group of artists to create this show for the community.” The diversity of the people who live here and call this home is overwhelming and inspirational. Susan has created a small group of art works in a variety of mediums. Her emphasis is more on who we are rather than what we look like. We are field workers. We are horse trainers\, We are natives of the everglades and even venture out into the black night to capture pythons! If you see Susan around town\, her first question to you is usually\, “How did you get here?”\nSusan has been an artist all of her life. She received her BFA from the Univ. of Florida. She lived in NYC. She is an award winning artist who has exhibited widely in Galleries from NYC to Miami. She traveled throughout the US as an outdoor art festival artist for 30 years. \n\n\nThe “People of Homestead” art show will open on the walls of the Seminole Theater on Krome ave Feb. 1st and run thru March 31st. A Meet and greet artist reception with refreshments will be February 28th at 6 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet three of Homesteads talented artists. Fearless performers with boundless energy bring you more than two thousand years of Chinese circus traditions. If it’s humanly possible and even if it’s not! Shanghai acrobats\, jugglers and contortionists do it with spectacular flair. Direct from China\, this troupe has been wowing audiences for 16 years. \nThe Chinese acrobatic tradition dates back to 700 B.C.; that’s over 2\,000 years of tumbling\, balancing and juggling. Ancient stone carvings\, earthen pottery and early written work trace the ancestry of today’s spectacular acts. Relics tell the tales of famous acrobats like Confucius’ father\, who is believed to have lifted a pair of 1\,000-pound city gates to let an army storm through. \nThe art of Chinese acrobatics developed out of the Lunar New Year harvest celebrations\, where the village’s peasants and craftsmen would hold a kind of Chinese Thanksgiving. Acrobats would use household tools and common items found around the farm and workshop as part of their exciting feats. By combining a brass quintet\, piano and percussion instruments with fresh\, original arrangements\, their unique sound has become a trademark for the ensemble from San Diego\, CA\, captivating audiences the world over. \nThrough their hit touring show Presidio!… And All That Brass!\, these five young men present Broadway music and film music with a good dose of wit and humor that together have become hallmarks of each performance. Presidio Brass has performed and provided educational outreach in more than 40 states\, conducted master classes at many of America’s finest colleges and universities and has been featured on National Public Radio. \nIn honor of being in South Miami Dade\, Presidio Brass will perform with tyhe South Dade High School jazz band and provide master classes to students in the area. \nMembers of the Presidio Brass have performed with major symphony orchestras\, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Las Vegas Philharmonic\, Pacific Symphony and San Diego Symphony\, and have shared the stage with commercial and pop artists that include Stevie Wonder\, Natalie Cole\, Quincy Jones and more. When not on tour\, they continue to perform throughout the country as freelance artists\, maintain private teaching studios at local universities\, arrange and compose new music\, assist with public school music programs\, and operate an annual summer music camp in San Diego for brass students of all ages. \nIn addition to performing as a brass quintet\, Presidio Brass performs regularly as a part of Millennia Consort\, one of the nation’s premiere brass\, organ and percussion ensembles. Millennia Consort is active in commissioning new works as well as arrangements of popular classical music. The latest recording by the ensemble\, Pictures of a New Beginning\, includes commissions of new music by Craig Phillips\, John Hirten and Jon Naples\, and features an arrangement of the orchestral favorite Pictures at an Exhibition by Presidio Brass’ tubist\, Scott Sutherland. \nPresidio brings you their newest offering titled “…And All That Brass” which features music from the most iconic shows on Broadway.
