DESCRIPTION:JCS Ballet Academy presents:“Ruth: God’s Redeeming Power” \n“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God\, and are justified freely by his grace through theredemption that is in Christ Jesus…" Rom. 3:23–24The story starts outside of Bethlehem (1:1)\, Moab\, Israel’s enduring enemy\, located east of the Dead Sea.This country originated when Lot became the father of Moab through an incestuous union with his eldestdaughter (Gn. 19:37). Centuries later\, the Jews encountered opposition from Balak\, king of Moab\, throughthe prophet Balaam (Nm. 22–25).For eighteen years\, Moab oppressed Israel during the time of the judges (3:12–30). Saul defeated theMoabites (1 Sam. 14:47)\, while David seemed to enjoy a peaceful relationship with them (1 Sam. 22:3\,4). Later\, Moab again troubled Israel (2 Kings 3:5-27; Ez 9:1).Because of Moab's idolatrous relationship with Chemosh (1 Kings 11:7\, 33; 2 Kings 23:13) and itsopposition to Israel\, God cursed Moab (Is. 15:16; Jer. 48; Ez. 25:8-11; Am. 2:1-3). After her mother reprimands her\, Alice is upset and falls asleep to find herself chasing a rabbit who leads her to the forest where she meets 2 children who tell her a sad story about oysters. She continues on her path following the rabbit to some angry flowers\, a snobby caterpillar\, a crazy tea party and finally to the Queen and King of hearts\, where she is tried and sentenced to death. Luckily\, she wakes up in time to realize it was all a bad dream. This story ballet will delight children and adults alike\, danced by the professionally trained Ballet and Beyond dancers. It is rare to see new full length story ballets. Don’t miss this hidden gem! Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir\, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but\, in doing so\, blows her cover. Featuring original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner\, Alan Menken (Newsies\, Beauty and the Beast\, Little Shop of Horrors)\, this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards\, including Best Musical. \nWhen disco diva\, Deloris Van Cartier\, witnesses a murder\, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be a found: a convent! Disguised as a nun\, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir\, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but\, in doing so\, blows her cover. Soon\, the gang is giving chase\, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood. \nFilled with powerful gospel music\, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story\, Sister Act will leave audiences breathless! We are looking for both singers and dancers for this production.  \nCAST BREAKDOWN\n Audition Guidelines For open calls: \nPlease prepare 16 -32 measures of an upbeat song or ballad in your key (less than a minute). Choose a piece that you are comfortable with and one that shows off your strengths. You will need to sing with an accompaniment track. We will provide a speaker that you can Bluetooth your phone to and will allow you time to test the volume before you sing. Many tracks are available on Youtube\, but since internet is a little spotty in our audition room we encourage you to download or screen record your accompaniment so you don’t need internet reception.  Memorization of your vocal excerpt is strongly encouraged since it is difficult to see the emotion in your face if you are reading off a paper/screen.  Everyone auditioning will be required to do a vocal audition as well as participate in the dance call.   \n For the dance call\, make sure to wear clothes and shoes you can move and turn in.  There will be a warm-up to start with and you may be on the ground for that.  You will have time to change clothes between vocal audition and dance call if you so choose.  \n Headshots and resumes are not required but we will take them if you have them.
