SUMMARY:Baseball Dreams
DESCRIPTION:“What if Works’ first “dramatic curation”\, Baseball Dreams\, is taken from a mesmerizing collection of short stories by former Miami Herald journalist and Cuban American novelist Ana Menendez\nFriday\, 13 September 2019 8PM Saturday\, 14 September 2019 8PM \nSeminole Theatre\n18 N. Krome Avenue\, Homestead\, FL\, US\n  \n\n\n \n“What if Works’ first “dramatic curation”\, Baseball Dreams\, is taken from a mesmerizing collection of short stories\, by former Miami Herald journalist and Cuban American novelist Ana Menendez; “In Cuba I was a German Shepherd”. The two-part story explores the phenomenon of parallel dreams with Part I taking place in 1935 as The Daughter recalls her nine-year old father’s relentless dream of becoming a future DiMaggio of the Cuban National League. \nUnable to accept his own failings the Boy’s dream breaks apart\, contributing to devastating consequences. Part II takes place in 1965 in which his nine-year old Daughter and her Mother\, wait patiently by the seashore for his visit. They become unwitting spectators to the antics of two boys in the midst of a competitive pitching battle. After watching the thrills\, spills and dangers generated by the boys the Girl is consumed with a dream that one day she\, like the boys\, will be able to play baseball. \nBaseball Dreams is a simple\, elegiac story\, a parable filled with human conflict and compassion. Through its “dramatic curation” What if Works seeks to sustain the author’s work from the page\, word-for-word while delivering an indelible experience through the intersection of spoken word\, drama\, music\, movement and video. \n In conjunction with “Baseball Dreams” and in partnership with the Miami Dade Public Schools and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts What if Works will offer a series of writing and adaptation workshops in middle and high schools the results of which will be seen in the “Literary Stage & Screen Youth Festival in June 2020. \nTickets are also available at the Seminole Theatre box office\, 786-650-2073 or 18 N Krome Ave\, Homestead\, FL (Tues-Sat 12-6pm) \n  \n \n  \n\n\nOrganizer: What if Works Inc. \n\n\n\nOpen Baseball Dreams at Eventbrite.com \n\n\n\n\nAll orders carry a transaction fee. All sales are final unless the event is cancelled\, patrons would then get the choice of a refund\, credit or pick a different show. All patrons\, regardless of age\, must have a ticket. Lap seat tickets are available for select performances. All sales are final. There are no refunds for any reason except event cancellation.
