Due to Hurricane Irma’s effects on our town, we must unfortunately postpone our gala. We know some are out of town and still working on their homes, and we also need to take care of damage to the theater.
A new date has not yet been established, but as soon as we are able to secure a date with the venue, we will notify you and have all reservations transferred. If you are unable to attend the new date, we can of course arrange a credit or refund.

Join us for the first annual Hooray for Hollywood Gala, a benefit for the Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre.

The Seminole Theatre is not only an important historic fixture for the City of Homestead, but now operates as the premier Performing Arts Center for the area, drawing artists of national and international acclaim while also showcasing local artists.

The Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre traveled the long road to have the building restored and renovated, capping off the success with a grand re-opening in December of 2015.  Now, “The Friends” are responsible for the continued maintenance and improvement of the theater, as well as supporting community based programming.  In a short amount of time, The Friends have already been responsible for:

-Installing and supporting the “Artist in the Spotlight” program, allowing local visual artists to showcase in the Seminole Theatre lobby, supported by a free bi-monthly open house.

-Supporting over 1000 at-need youth and families to attend professional performances at the Seminole Theatre.

-Launching the Seminole Theatre Players, the new resident community theatre company of the Seminole Theatre, with the first production of HAIRSPRAY a sold out success!

This play touches every aspect of life’s struggles and gives encouragement for any trials you might be going through in reality. Whether the trials are financial, social, or marital, this production encourages individuals to wait on the lord because he will work out any problem or situation. This inspiring message of this gospel play was created, written, and produced by an anointing woman of God “Minister Juanita Parnell”. Not to be outdone, What if Works, in collaboration with Homestead Center for the Arts is proud to announce South Florida’s very own production. DRIVING MISS DAISY

by Alfred Uhry

“Isn’t it wonderful the way things are changing” remarks the retired German-Jewish teacher Daisy Werthan to her African-American chauffeur, Hoke Coleman in response to the whirlwind transformations taking place between the 50s and 60s. Hoke’s response is short and to the point; “Things changin’, but they ain’t change all that much.”

Looking at the deeply divided world in which we live today Hoke’s words are chillingly resonant. Written in 1985, Daisy’s life spans from 1876 to 1973. On stage we see only her last twenty-five years. It is no accident that Uhry chose to begin the action in 1948, a time when the status quo and comfortable middleclass values became challenged by a generation that would soon reject materialism in search of peace, love and understanding. This was a time when prejudice and racial inequality were being brought to the surface and examined in the cold light of day. The past was no longer a place to hide and accountability came knocking on the door with intrepid insistence. 

What if Works is proud to present this landmark play at the historic Seminole Theatre in Homestead featuring a stellar cast of local resident actors with Harriet Devine as Daisy Werthan, Nimmond Lockheart as her chauffeur, Hoke Coleman and Chris Coppolo as Daisy’s son, Boolie.

The Follow Your Dreams Revue is a mix of musical and acting pieces that surround the theme of following your dreams! It features songs and scenes from Moana, Chicago, Matilda the Musical, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, and even an original piece written by our campers! It is sure to be a fun and inspiring evening.
