We have an exciting set of events happening downtown Homestead.
On January 15th, we kick off the inaugural Seminole Showcase Series with a live music concert by Grammy Award winning artist Jon Secada, presented by The Seminole Cultural Arts Theatre, Inc. Board of Directors. Secada is currently celebrating his recently released single and music video, “I’m Never Too Far Away,” as well as honoring the 20th anniversary of his first hit “Just Another Day.”
Then, come back on January 21st to the reggae rhythms of The Wailers who, together with Bob Marley, pioneered roots rock reggae and sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide.
On January 24th, take a stroll down memory lane when The Drifters roll into Miami Dade County. The Drifters are one of the most famous doo-wop and R&B groups with hits dating back to the 1950’s such as “Under The Boardwalk” and “On Broadway.”
If you like to do more than just watch events, come down on a Wednesday for Wine Down and Paint with Art For Good Paint Parties. Get instructions on how to paint your own picture that you can take home, while sipping wine and munching snacks, and it all benefits a good cause. Come down on January 13th or 27th (or both!). Outside of their ground-breaking work with Marley, the Wailers have also played or performed with international acts like Sting, the Fugees, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, and Alpha Blondy, as well as reggae legends such as Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and Burning Spear. The Drifters served to link Fifties rhythm & blues with Sixties soul music. They epitomized the vocal group sound of New York City. Theirs was the sweet but streetwise sound of R&B suffused with gospel influences. The Drifters managed to set musical trends and give the public 13 chart hits, most of which are legendary recordings today. Tickets from $27.
SEMINOLE THEATRE is set to present its first season since it’s reopening on October 28th, 2015. After the sold-out opening gala, SEMINOLE THEATRE announced its first ever SEMINOLE THEATRE SHOWCASE SERIES, a new and exciting concert series combining several different genres of music.
From January 15th to June 4th 2016, there will be more than 30 artists gracing the stage at Seminole Theatre. They will all give life to a theater that was closed for over 40 years. The acts include; Jon Secada, The Wailers, The Drifters, Paul Thorn, The Lettermen, Nicole Henry, The South Beach Chamber Ensemble, Charlie Musselwhite, Miami Jazz Voices, Combat Hippies, Brandy Clark, and Alejandro Escovedo.
The Seminole Theatre is the premiere performing arts center of Homestead, Florida. The Seminole provides a creative hub of theater, music, dance and education in south Dade County. The Seminole Theatre’s mission is to make the live performing arts accessible to the diverse community of the greater Homestead region and to attract established and emerging artists of excellence locally, nationally, and internationally.

PINNACLE NAMED TO MANAGE HISTORIC SEMINOLE THEATRE IN HOMESTEAD, FL
MICKEY MCGUIRE NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF NEWLY RENOVATED VENUE
HOMESTEAD, FL, November 30, 2015 – Pinnacle Venue Services has signed a multiyear agreement with the City of Homestead, FL, to manage the historic and newly renovated, 500-seat Seminole Theatre, it was announced today by Doug Higgons and Tom Paquette, Managing Partners of Pinnacle.
Pinnacle also named Mickey McGuire, a veteran of theater management, operations and marketing, as the new Executive Director of the Seminole Theatre.
The renovated downtown Homestead landmark, which first opened in 1921 as a movie and live entertainment showplace, debuted this month. With the aid of a $5 million bond referendum approved by voters last year, the venue has been completely renovated with all of the newest technical equipment and customer comforts.
Higgons said Pinnacle will be providing all management and operational services for the regional performing arts center, while Anchor Arts Management, Inc., of Miami Beach, FL, headed by Gary Lund, will coordinate a full range of diversified, quality performing arts programming, including ethnic entertainment, to appeal to men, women and children throughout the Homestead region.
“The Seminole Theatre is a gem in Homestead that will glow brighter than ever with the plans we have for the performing arts center,” Higgons said. “In addition to a host of top performers and productions, we hope to create new and expanded events that will combine the Seminole Theatre with adjacent Losner Park for family festivals and special events. Our mission is to bring new excitement, fun and activity to downtown Homestead.”
“We are extremely delighted to be partnering with Pinnacle Venue Services as we begin this new era in the history of the Seminole Theatre,” said City Manager George Gretsas. “There is an enthusiastic new spirit and sense of pride in our city for our 94-year-old regional performing arts center that will once again become an important cultural and entertainment center for all Homestead and Dade County residents.”
McGuire formerly was Associate General Manager at DR Theatrical Management in New York City where his responsibilities included coordinating with commercial and nonprofit theater clients in New York and throughout the country. Earlier, Mickey worked as Assistant Contracts Manager for The Road Company, handling national tours of Wicked, Grease, The Color Purple, David Copperfield and more. He has also worked as a Marketing Assistant with TheaterMania in New York City and with the marketing department at Lincoln Center where he worked on the annual summer events Midsummer Night Swing and Lincoln Center Festival. In New Brunswick, NJ, Mickey served for two years as the Managing Director of The Livingston Theatre Company. Mickey has worked as both a Director and Stage Manager in New York City and regionally. He received a bachelor’s degree in Theatrical Management from Rutgers University.
“Mickey’s vast experience in theater and entertainment brings the new Seminole Theatre an outstanding leader who has the contacts, knowledge and commitment to bring new and exciting entertainment to residents of the Homestead area,” Higgons said. “We are very pleased to have him on our Pinnacle team.”
The Seminole Theatre was decimated when Homestead was battered by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. In 1993, the theatre’s owners donated the building to the city, which later designated it a local historic site, the sole remaining example of Art Moderne style architecture in Dade County.

Prepare for an unforgettable evening with an arts and culture fair, red carpet, and “A Night on Broadway” musical performance as Homestead celebrates the Grand Opening of the Seminole Theatre on Saturday, December 12th.
- 6:00PM: FREE Arts & Culture Fair. The opening night festivities will feature music, live art, improv, spoken word, fire dancing, acrobats, magicians, and an interactive community art project. Guests can also enjoy food, cash bars, and free popcorn and cotton candy.
- “A Night on Broadway” will be simulcast to an outdoor screen for the community to enjoy at 7:30PM.
- 7:00PM: Red Carpet. Members of the Homestead community will dress to impress and strut their stuff on the red carpet when the doors open for “A Night on Broadway,” the Seminole Theatre’s first show in nearly four decades.
- 7:30PM: “A Night on Broadway.” When the curtain rises, patrons will enjoy hits from Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserable, Wizard of Oz, Evita, Wicked, and many more in this intimate performance by Broadway Singers. Tickets for the one-of-a-kind show are available online at www.seminoletheatre.org for the special premiere price of only $20.
- 8:45PM: “A Night on Broadway” Performers Q&A. Following this extraordinary evening, local students can participate in an educational Q&A session with the performers inside the Seminole Theatre. Registration is required.
The renovation of the Seminole Theatre as a cultural arts center is part of an overall effort to bring new life to Downtown Homestead with a series of civic and community ventures. These include the new City Hall, which is near completion, the expansion of Losner Park as a civic plaza for community events, and the construction of a new Police Station in the heart of Downtown.
